Counselling Services

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a collaborative process that takes place in a confidential and safe space for individuals to work with a qualified professional to enhance self-understanding, with the aim to resolve concerns, and improve mental health and wellbeing. Counselling can help to address a range of challenges such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, and trauma.

How do Counselling and Psychology services differ?

Whilst both Counsellors and Psychologists provide mental health support, the key differences are that Counsellors do not provide a diagnosis. As a registered counsellor I do not offer diagnosis assessments. Psychologists can perform psychological assessments and diagnose mental health disorders.

Counsellors focus on providing therapeutic support by helping clients to have a better understanding of themselves using a person-centred approach in conjunction to human behaviour, including taking cultural aspects that may affect mental health into account. Therapy involves talking through concerns and gaining perspective to help bring insight on how you came to be who you are today, identify unhelpful thinking patterns which can help make sense of how you relate to yourself and to those around you. Working together in a therapeutic relationship, counselling can help you to better manage challenging situations and roadblocks, develop a better understanding of your emotional wellbeing, and build coping strategies to live a more fulfilling life.

What can I expect in first session?

The first session will firstly involve some administration to go through forms, the counselling process and confidentiality. We will then begin the session with talking about what has brought you in to counselling and your concerns.

When an in-person or online appointment is booked a significant amount of time is set aside which includes administration and preparation for you as the client as well as the session time. Late cancellations do not allow for another client to be offered the appointment. Understandably at times appointments may need to be rescheduled or cancelled. In the event that you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment please notify me with as much notice as possible, with a minimum of 48 hours notice required for free-cancellation.
