CY Counselling is committed to respecting your rights and providing quality counselling services. Your right to privacy and confidentiality will be recognised and respected in all aspects of your contact with us. This statement outlines our ongoing obligations to you in respect to how your Personal Information is managed. CY Counselling complies with the requirements of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What is Personal Information and why is it collected?

Personal Information is information or an opinion that identifies an individual. Personal Information includes Health Information, which is information about the physical or mental health or disability of an individual. Examples of Personal Information collected includes: names, contact number and addresses, date of birth, medical information relevant to the service being provided, psychological history, goals/reasons for counselling.

Collection of personal information relevant to your situation is a necessary part of counselling services. Your Personal Information is collected in various ways including: directly in person, over the phone, by email, forms, and from other parties where applicable and with consent. CY Counselling will only request and retain Personal Information that is necessary.

All personal information gathered during the provision of a Counselling session will remain confidential and secure except in the following circumstances, according to National Privacy Principal 6-confidentiality:

  • If it is subpoenaed by a court; or

  • If failure to disclose information would place you or another person at risk according to the mandatory reporting laws;

  • or if your prior approval has been obtained in writing.

Your Personal Information will be stored in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. When your Personal Information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was obtained, reasonable steps will be taken to destroy or permanently de-identify it. 

Website use and security

CY Counselling is hosted on an Australian based server to comply with Australian data storage standards, including SSL encryption. The security of your personal information is important however no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

This website is GDRP compliant, and to improve your experience on when using this website, ‘cookies’ may be used. A cookie is a small piece of data given to your web browser to remember your preferences. You may disable the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser, however, please bear in mind that this may result in the experience of not utilising the full functionality of this website.
